William Faeth is committed to helping to fix and save marriages, as well as helping individuals heal their emotional distress. He sees this as his life’s work, even a vocation.
To this end, he took several extra courses in marriage and family therapy and in individual therapy while in graduate school. Upon completing graduate school, he was hired as the marriage and family therapist on the Adult Faculty Psychiatric Unit of the University of Cincinnati (UC)Hospital. While there, he continued his training in marriage and family therapy with faculty experts in the Department of Psychiatry of the Medical School. After two years, William Faeth became a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy. Now, he is a Clinical Fellow in the AAMFT. He is also a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work.
While working at UC, he also took advanced training in Alcohol Abuse from a nationally known expert in the Medical School, and he trained in Eating Disorders.
Then, for three years he trained in Intensive Individual Therapy under the supervision of a highly experienced teaching Psychoanalyst. In time, William Faeth was promoted to Part-Time Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the UC Medical School, as he also continued his work in the hospital.
Throughout his more than 35 years of clinical experience, he has made it his goal to be empathic, yet direct and no-nonsense.
In his Marriage Counseling, he does not take either side but advocates for the marriage itself. In both marriage and individual therapy, he is very active in the work. He provides information and explains theory about how and why things work to get better. He tells stories as metaphors. He gives homework. He suggests books to read. And he does role-play to demonstrate how to communicate clearly and more effectively. Although the therapy process is serious and important, he can even tell a joke to lighten the mood during difficult moments.
